English Club Extracurricular Activities in Enchancing Students’ Speaking of SMAN 1 Mempawah Hilir 2022/2023

This study aims to determine the process of using the English Club in supporting speaking to students and what is the strength and weakness in English club activities. This study aims to identify the English club process to improve students' speaking and the strengths and weaknesses that exist. This study uses a qualitative method. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets, questionnaires and interviews. The students in this study were students from the English Club of SMA Negeri 1 Mempawah Hilir. The results showed that the English club students at SMA Negeri 1 Mempawah Hilir experienced in speaking and experienced gradual changes, especially in terms of pronunciation. The strengths of the English club are the delivery of material well so that it is easy for students to understand, a relaxed atmosphere that makes students not feel tense while studying, and the fact that students become active and dare to ask questions. The weaknesses are the teacher's lack of ability to train or persuade students to speak English during English club activities, loose regulations, especially disciplinary rules for students and the absence of a structured approach, it is difficult to ensure the development of comprehensive skills in all areas of language learning, such as grammar, vocabulary, listening and writing.
